The 2011 crop's early canopy closure combined with the excess moisture the past few weeks will likely lead to an earlier start to this year's fungicide program (and possibly a few more applications than the last couple of years). This year's program will be similar to others that have been used in previous years, with a couple slight modifications:

TPTH: AgriTin - SuperTin
Strobilurins: Headline - Gem
Benzimidazoles: Topsin M 4.5L, Topsin M 70 WDG, Topsin M 70WP, Topsin M WSB, Thiophanate Methyl 85 WDG, T-Methyl 70W WSB, T-Methyl E-AG 4.5 F and T-Methyl E-AG 70 WSB
Things to consider:
- The single most important fungicide application is the very first one. Research indicates that the best timing of
fungicide for both control and net revenue occurs just prior to the first spot being found.

- Headline should be applied the last week of August - early applications of Headline shows no plant health benefit
or increased frost tolerance.

- Applying Proline in July may be later than recommended for post-emerge Rhizoctonia Control, but some activity has
been noted in test plots. It should be considered as the Triazole fungicide of choice for fields that have a history of or
are showing active Rhizoctonia infections. Proline must be applied with a non-ionic surfactant.

- Always rotate fungicide classes. Ideally do not use any chemistry more than once in the program.

- Fungicides with a contact mode of action are most effective with thorough coverage and applied prior to the onset
of disease symptoms - Apply before, NOT AFTER infection has occurred.
